lol cabbie was *not* ok. Kemi- BF is a cop.. it was his first arrest and gun recovery (turns out the gun was connetected to a string of murders in GA)
he took the kid to court the next day , and he was scheduled for 6-count-em different trials because he did all sorts of crap like assult a teacher, shoot a cabbie, assult a friend, shoplift, etc etc..

the judge himself just said " wow- this is ONE BAD KID" Bf laughed. It was his first arrest and he was so proud.

the kid was getting a 50 dollar allowance every day from his mom. he saved up 350 and bought the gun off a crackhead. as bf was transporting him to the precinct, he asked: " now dont you think you shoudl have bought a playstation instead of that gun?" the kid, looked down at his knees and nodded..

LOL!

Holy cow, Sarah! Was the cabbie ok eventually?

Kemi, that parent sounds like a great candidate for MJ's Slap a Moron Day. I'm pretty sure you can do backslaps (years after the fact) too. I tell ya, there needs to be Slap a Moron MONTH.

Hmmm... Chad would be 19 or 20 now, so it's probably not him. He DID have a younger brother, however, who was rumored to be even WORSE.

Sarah, is your boyfriend okay? Did the cabbie live?

*faint*

You'll probably enjoy this story, too:

One kid in my class checked in late every day. He was at least an hour late, if not ninety minutes. His parents never came to any sort of parent/teacher conference, so I called them at home to discuss the situation.

"Well, he really likes the Pokemon cartoon, and it comes on at 9:00, and he just refuses to get dressed until after he's watched it. We also can't get him to do his homework or any chores around the house or anything, because all he wants to do is play his Nintendo. Do you have any suggestions, because my wife and I are late for work every day because of it."

Seriously. I kindly (while thinking, "HELLO? Who is the parent?") suggested that he give his son the choice to get dressed for school or go in his pajamas, without breakfast. Then I told him that the easiest video-game fix was to simply unplug it and put it away, hiding it if necessary.

He was dumbfounded. Absolutely stupefied. "Oh, like good-cop, bad-cop," he asked? (Uh, no, not really.) Then he wanted to know how many kids I had. I told him I was expecting my first, and he was even more astounded. He wondered where I had gotten such great wisdom, and I wanted to reach through the phone and slap him, while shouting, "IT'S COMMON SENSE, YOU IDIOT!"

Especially disturbing are the car theft, etc. video games. Really? We want to have our children play games where they shoot people as they drive by? Sounds like a good plan! Shooting people is FUN! UGH! Rolls eyes--

The health care issue hits me the hardest with drug costs; My union has not been able to keep my CoPay as low as in the past so I have had to seek alternatives. One site I have been using is www.OPTIMIZERx.com . They have been helping me out finding me rebates, trial offers and the best thing is that it is totally free. Check it out we all need this kind of help today.

Boy, this is powerful. It's so true. I feel the worst is parents now feel they have to be "friends" with their children and it's harming them in so many ways. It's the reason I left my job with the schools. We had to "defend" ever single decision we made because the parents were in there to complain that "their child would never do such a thing" and their child said so and so!! It's very sad. There is no responsibility being taught.

Oh, I could just go on and on...

When I was a 5th-grade teacher, I really saw a lack of respect. I had a parent conference about one boy, who was constantly disruptive, disrespectful and dangerous (a triple threat! *snort*) to me and the rest of the class. When I told them their son's standard response to "Get to work" or "Now is not the time for talking" was "BITE ME", the mom giggled and clapped her hands and said, "That sounds just like our Chad!"

When he was suspended for choking a boy at recess <i> until the other kid lost consciousness</i><i>, his mom rented him video games and movies, ordered pizza and basically gave him a party week at home.

That kid had such a warped sense of entitlement, and it was all because of his parents. Well, mostly his mother. (His dad did have the good sense to look ashamed at his son's behavior.) Now that Chad's an adult, I fully expect to see him on the news, involved in murder, rape, robbery or assault, with his defense being, "But I WANTED it and they wouldn't let me HAVE it." or "I didn't like the way they were looking at me, so I took care of it."</i>
