Every once in awhile I run across a warm fuzzy news story that makes me think humanity has a shot after all.
It seems in Torrence, CA, 70 year old Ludwig Geier was leaving a bank with a several thousand dollar cash withdrawal. He stumbled, dropping the envelope, and the money began flying in the wind throughout the parking lot. Roughly a dozen bystanders used their God-given Common Sense to recognize he needed assistance, and ran about helping the poor man collect the cash.
Almost all of it was recovered.
Surprisingly, I’m not going to pick on the man for not securing that much moolah. He still lost a few hundred dollars out of the deal which is surely punishment enough. And besides–my MeMaw would give me hell for picking on an elderly man who made a mistake. (She’s a foot shorter than me and two generations older, but MeMaw is not to be trifled with. If I tried to outrun her on foot, she’d probably chase me with her car. You have no idea.)
My point (I did have a point…? Oh yes. My point.) My point is that a dozen strangers came immediately to the man’s aid. They didn’t stand around taking pictures of flying money with their camera phones. They didn’t start stuffing thier pockets. They didn’t watch the scene unfold while pointing and jeering. They helped.
There’s a lesson there for all of us I think.

I am a firm believer of human kindness. This is great that so many people just helped this man without thinking “what’s in it for me.” I would have done the same thing.
Did I also tell you my glasses have rose colored lenses and my glass is always half full??
Good uplifting post Kelly.

This IS a happy note! It reaffirms my faith in people’s innate goodness…and that most people will do the right thing if presented with a situation like that! The ones that won’t…well, there’s a special place in Hades (I’m being NICE) for folks like THAT.
Thanks for the great post!
