My Grandpa used to retire to the bathroom with a newspaper and box of matches for his “Daily Constitutions.” (Way more info than you needed, right? Bear with me while I hop on down this bunny trail.)
Sadly, the US Constitution has become little more than a bathroom joke. The Preamble sums it up, so let’s take a peek, shall we? No toilets will be involved, I swear. Ok, maybe I won’t swear. But I’ll try really, really hard.
Mostly.
We the People Not We the People in Charge, We the Democrats and Republicans, or even We the People with enough Lobbyist Money to Buy our Way into Office. It’s WE THE PEOPLE. (That’d be us.)
In order to form a more perfect Union In my dictionary, Union is closely related to Unity; as in together, united, people with one voice. The current trend toward Socialism (or worse) doesn’t represent a Union, it represents a scary world where an all-powerful Uncle Sam is the only one calling the shots around here.
Establish Justice How many court cases are affected by the letter of the law rather than its intent? If someone breaks into my home with the intent to do harm and I shoot his sorry ass, that someone can sue and win. Common Sense should be the rule in our courtrooms, not the exception.
Insure domestic Tranquility That means a content society. As you know, all Americans are currently very content with our government, as well as the myriad of choices we have for a new leader. Whew!
Provide for the common Defense I don’t find the words Set up unwanted Military Bases on every chunk of land on Earth whether the inhabitants want us there or not–but maybe I didn’t read it closely enough. I did kinda suck in History class.
Promote the general Welfare and Psst! I’m pretty sure our founding fathers were referring to health, happiness and prosperity, not government hand-outs to able bodied folk who would rather watch Tivo than work.
Secure the Blessings of Liberty Liberty: noun. plural. 1. Freedom from arbitrary or despotic government control. <snort!>
to Ourselves and our Posterity That would be you and me, our kids, their kids and so on down the line. Yes, our children really are going to be stuck with whatever mess we leave behind.
do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Which we’ve trampled on ever since.
The United States Constitution begins with the Preamble: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Read it. Know it. Teach your children to accept nothing less.

I love this! Every 4th of July we make our kids read the Constitution. I figure if the public schools won’t teach it then I have to!
