Sick of High Prices? Support the Folks Trying to Make a Difference
Dan Little is a small business owner who’s had enough. He pays too much at the pump, just like you and me. He buys expensive groceries for his family, just like you and me. He’s sick of our tight economy and the government that pretends there is no recession, –you guessed it– just like you and me. But he’s trying to do something about it.
Dan Little is an Independent Truck Driver.
I know, I know. I can almost hear the eyeballs rolling from here. And that’s too bad, because the folks who bitch about the trucking industry are among the loudest to whine about fuel and grocery prices. I can only surmise they don’t get the big picture.
<Pulls out a big box of Crayolas>
Look around you right now. Go ahead, take a peek. See the computer? The desk? The pencils, window blinds, carpet and telephone? All brought to the store by truckers. The bed you slept in last night? The cereal you ate this morning? The car you drive? Yup–brought by a trucker. Every single item in your home and office–not to mention the materials used to build your home and office–was moved by a trucker.
…And yet some of you remain dismissive. (sigh)
Without the trucks, we have no stuff. No food coming to the grocery stores, no supplies going to We-Don’t-Care-Mart. No toilet paper, no diapers, no tampons, no gasoline. Follow along here, because this is important: What happens when there’s no stuff left to buy? Y’all remember Hurricane Katrina? My spouse spent 2 & 1/2 months in the middle of the relief effort. Trust me when I say the looting and misery you saw on TV was the watered down version the networks were allowed to show.
Pick up a copy of Lord of the Flies sometime.
The trucking industry has been hurting for years. They’re currently in a state of emergency. At today’s fuel prices, trucking companies are going under daily. It’s not just the trucks going down, folks. It’s families. Thousands of them.
What would happen to your family if your household income got smaller and smaller until it didn’t exist? Think long and hard on that one, because if the trucking industry goes under, there will be no one to bring materials to manufacturers or deliver finished products to the stores. That means YOUR job may indeed be on the line. Mine, too.
The Independent Trucker provides an invaluable service to our nation. The industry cannot be allowed to fail. To that end, Dan Little is calling for a peaceful but loud-and-clear Shut Down of thousands of trucks on Tuesday, April 1st.
I don’t know about you, but I’m rooting for the Little guy.

I hope word of this gets out there and enough drivers make a stand to get the attention it needs and deserves!

Well, I used to work for one of the big guys that support the little guys… and the truck industry has been hurting for alot of years. My hope is that a pull out will actually work. Sadly, I’m losing faith that the government is even listening anymore…

I am in the same boat Dan Little is….like him I have worked long and hard to have what I have. My dad, my husbands dad and grandad did too. Dan has the right idea. But we really gotta band together and get the word out. But to make a difference someones gotta get squeezed and hurt alittle. I am not talking violence…I am saying we gotta strike long enough for some shelves to get empty.

I agree with Cyndi. Until the average person starts wondering why there’s no bread on the shelves, it won’t get the attention it deserves. Unfortunately Capitol Hill is quite accustomed to ignoring the needs of the people. Our small businesses are failing, jobs are drying up, and people are going on welfare because it pays better than the pennies left from the commute to their old job. How sad for us all.

K is right Capitol Hill doesnt have its ears on…only blinders. Went and bought 2 packs of Pepsi. It was $9.00. The clerk thought was high too. She shook her head wondering out loud if it cost more to mix soda water and syrup together. I shook my head and said “no it doesnt, its the fuel that costs more” she didnt get what I was saying. Cant blame her though…she’s not been educated. I explained, the trucker had to buy the fuel and still feed his family, so the high price of fuel is what made the Pepsi so expensive.” I felt great pride in telling her a truck brought it, but very dismayed too…I only hope he could afford to feed his family. Told her that to, as I left my kid said “mom I think she was listening” Lets hope so….
