Don Henley was right…Get Over It!
If I see one more whiny adult with maxed out credit cards and an undeserved sense of entitlement, I may have to shoot myself. What is it with these people? There seems to be close to an entire generation of 20-somethings who think the rest of us owe them something. Whaaaat is this? Now before I get pelted with icky things from somebody’s cyber refrigerator, let me clarify the above statement. I said close to an entire generation. There are some exceptional 20-somethings who do indeed have a clue. It’s the ones who think they’re special to whom I speak.
Hey, all you wannabes…? Hang up your cell phones and listen up. And you–with that Bluetooth doohickey in your ear? You’re just not that important, Toots. (Sorry, but it had to be said.) Now come over here a second and listen to me. Seriously, I can help.
The two words that have caused me the most trouble in my life are “I Deserve.” Oh yeah–that’s bad mojo right there. And after bashing my noggin against the pavement enough times, I finally figured it out. I don’t deserve, and neither do you. I work for or I do without. It’s that simple. I don’t deserve a shiny, expensive car just because I’m special and I want one. I have to work for it.
See, those of you running around with the latest and greatest gadgets and not a dime to your name aren’t fooling anyone with an ounce of common sense. Sure, that $400 phone is amazing. But is it paid for? Pssst! …It’s not really your shiny new car when the bank owns more interest in it than you do. So please, do the rest of us a favor. Jump off the high horse before it throws you, because I can promise you this: sooner or later, your attitude will knock you to your knees. Don’t believe me? Just wait.

[...] We live Up North in a small, lakefront town on beautiful Lake Huron. Every weekend & every holiday the folks from Down Below arrive en masse. They bring with them their Hummer-pulled campers, their little yippy dogs, their expensive water, snow or dirt toys (depending on season) and too often a highly developed sense of entitlement. [...]
